After receiving your new dental implants, it is important to eat proper foods and maintain proper oral hygiene. If you prescribe to the guidelines provided to you by Dr. Stoner following your surgery, it will help you recover as quickly as possible.
Immediately after your dental implant surgery, it is important to drink plenty of cool fluids. Be sure to avoid straws and drink from a glass. Using a straw with sucking motion can inhibit the healing process and cause bleeding. It is important to also avoid carbonated beverages and hot foods or drinks.
A softer diet is recommended for at least 10 days to 2 weeks following surgery. Cut your food into the smallest pieces that you can, and puree foods with a blender. Patients who follow a healthy post surgery diet of soft foods tend to have less discomfort and heal much faster. Some foods can have a negative effect on the gums such as crunchy snack foods like chips and nuts.
Before your dental implants are installed, Dr. Stoner will discuss in detail the proper post surgery diet and oral hygiene necessary to bolster your recovery.
